Robert Howell Insurance Commissioner or Robert John Howell, who’s also known by his nickname Howdy was born in Floyd County, KY in 1927 on May 22nd. He was the oldest of six children and grew up in poverty during The Great Depression in the US. He joined the U.S Air Force (USAF) at age 18 and served during World War II from 1945 to 1947 as a radio operator in the Philippines and Japan where he was exposed to harsh weather conditions.

Robert Howell is the State of Georgia’s current insurance commissioner. He was first elected in 2010 and then re-elected in 2014. Mr. Howell is a graduate of Albany State University and received his law degree from Mercer University School of Law. He began his career as an attorney with the City of Augusta, before joining Hartman, Bosselman & Blackwelder in 1990. From 1995 to 1999, he served as city attorney for Aiken, South Carolina and from 1999 until 2003 served as county attorney for Richmond County. In 2002, he also served on President Bush’s Council on Critical Infrastructure Protection Board.

I want to help people be more financially prepared for their future. I believe that most people are underinsured and this is a problem. I want to improve the level of education and awareness so that more people can make informed decisions about how they manage their insurance coverage.Robert has been a lifelong resident of North Carolina, graduating from UNC-Wilmington with his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He has also earned his MBA from Anderson University in Indiana.
